MISSION AND VISION
Planet Peace Affiliates is a nonprofit organization helping youth of all abilities become active peacemakers. Our mission is to instill a sense of purpose, responsibility, and recognition in an environment that instills inner peace. We provide life-changing experiences on the farm through activities designed to help youth reduce stress, and cultivate confidence and compassion. Our programs educate and empower youth with the skills and confidence needed to foster peace within their schools, communities and social networks.
By cultivating the virtues and skills needed to create and sustain a peaceful society, we help youth find inner peace, compassion, and confidence. By applying the principles of the kindness and upholding the oneness of humankind, they learn how to mitigate intolerance, divisiveness, discrimination, and conflict. Our activities and services include:
Lessons in horsemanship, gardening, meditation & mindfulness
Family & homeschooling farm visits
Outdoor & online yoga
One-on-one youth mentoring & internships
Birthday parties & picnics
Farm fresh veggies, eggs & honey
Planet Peace Affiliates is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
Planet Peace Affiliates was founded in 2005 by Jules Cohen. It was her vision to inspire middle and high school youth to become active peacemakers by integrating the principles of oneness, kindness, and compassion into horsemanship, yoga, and gardening activities. It started as a part-time endeavor. Our first event was organizing and holding a Race Unity Conference in 2006, a family-oriented conference including a track for youth.
In 2018, after leaving the corporate world, Jules decided to focus her efforts full-time on growing Planet Peace Affiliates to serve local youth. She recruited additional board members and advisors with experience in Psychology, Yoga, Childhood Development, Family Studies, Education, Ministry, Marketing & Communication, Web Design, Social Media, Grant Writing, and Events Organizing. During this time, she expanded our network of volunteers as well as our offerings of activities.
We served over 50 youth from ages 3-17 in 2019, and we began partnering with Wake Technical Community College's T-STEP program for autistic youth transitioning from high school to employment and college. Our student volunteers earned hundreds of community service hours. Moving forward, we plan to add a junior peacemaker certification and therapeutic horsemanship lessons.
